Comments on "D7000 focus issue?"

This really doesn't ...
This really doesn't work as you need different values of AF FINE TUNE for different focal lengths?

Yeah, it got sorted ...
Yeah, it got sorted... Haven't really seen a problem since? it came back...

Did you get it? fix?
Did you get it? fix?

The D7000 back? ...
The D7000 back? focused quite noticeably. It is sad.

Manual focus try? it
Manual focus try? it

I got the same ...
I got the same problem with my D7000... and I HATE when people to tell me "Just Manual Focus" it's a silly response... I've also been told to stop down the Aperture, but again, that's not correcting focus, it's increasing DOF... What I did, which did improve (but not fix), was take it back to Nikon themselves... Gonna send? mine in again soon... This video is quite old, has the problem been sorted since?

AF fine tuning ...
AF fine tuning doesn't? work in Live View mode.

Doesn't matter if ...
Doesn't matter if it's live-view or TTL, it never? locks focus.

You can't fix this ...
You can't fix this b/c live-view focus likes contrast edges, in this kind of scenario, you need to manually? focus your camera.

I don't have a ...
I don't have a D7000, so I'm sorry if this is off topic, but I tried for fun to measure the autofocus on my D3100 with the 35/1.8G,? to see what kind of results I would get on my camera. At 60cm distance, it focuses approximately +/- 1cm. I tried to start every second shot from closest focus distance, and every other from infinity, but did not see a pattern to the errors. It was about +/- 1cm all the time. How many times in a row do you usually measure, when doing adjustments for real on a D7000?

Yes, obviously ...
Yes, obviously manual focus works, however that is not the issue.? The issue is that even with focus fine-tune, it is not possible for me to nail focus.

It's not that it ...
It's not that it needs to be an S lens. This is the brand new 35mm f/1.8 G lens that Nikon just release about one year ago. It IS possible to fine tune this lens, however even after fine tuning, the combination of? this camera/lens never nails focus as expected. And yes, manual focusing does work.

So why don't you ...
So why don't you use manual focus??

hi Please read ...
hi Please read chinese 244 perfect explanation why your camera is working ? (actually its the lens as I mentioned) Thanks

Hello, this is my ...
Hello, this is my 4th try to post? and it seems to work. Anyway, accd. to nikon its NOT a cam. issue ,but a lense issue. Any lens that has not the "S" technology will have a front or backfocus as demonstrated in your video. The older lenses cannot adjust with todays digital focusing technology. So finetuning will not solve the problem. Solution= have to buy the more expensive with "S" or better. :-( Hope that helps.

Use manual focus .. ...
Use manual focus ... if you're on a tripod using live view, zoom all the way in and use the focus ring. I would say the issue you're having is that the edging of the bullet is blending in to the book that you have underneath it, the camera? isn't getting enough contrast to grab it properly.

I have the Nikkor ...
I have the Nikkor AFS DX 35mm F1.8, and I have no problem with auto-focus with this lens. In fact, it is one of the best lenses. Here is what I will do: I will focus on the center of a ruler about 1.5m? away. Do I get a dot from the focus indicator of the D7000? If I don't I may not have enough light to auto-focus? If I do, I take a shot and look at the jeg/nef file with a monitor to see where the focal point falls (If it is too far or too near). I will adjust according to the User's Manual.

Well, Auto Focus is ...
Well, Auto Focus is really about ignoring the eyes and relying on the camera to select the correct focus. In order? to test the accuracy of the focus of the D7000 with the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 DX lens, I produced this test to check for focus accuracy. Unfortunately, no manner of Fine-Tune was able to get this combination of camera and lens to accurately lock on to the focus target. Manual focus was the only alternative and produced correct results.

Yes, I was focusing ...
Yes, I was focusing on a live subject. Specifically the bullet chain. I placed the bullets in a manner to test Depth of Field with the 35mm f/1.8 lens. The lens, or the camera, is consistently unable to focus on whatever is? inside the focus target.

hello bradm73.. are ...
hello bradm73.. are you focusing on a? still image? this is not correct.. please focus again on a live subject. let us know the result?

This is ...
This is international problem. I just came back from Barcelona Spain. I needed to but new camera because my D90 was stolen in the Metro. I bought D7000 and I noticed in when I watched the pictures on the computer. I saw faces being king of blurry and not focused, whenre the back seemed more focused than the face. I went back to9 the store (El Corte Ingles) and we? had our camera exchanged. They guy just changede the body. It still seems to have this problem, but a bit less I think

I meant seeing TTL ...
I meant seeing TTL to focus when I said TTL-manual focus. Some lenses are only sharp in the very center, and your subject would appears out of focus except it is because the lens is on sharp in that area. I hope it helps you. Master of your tools, by knowing its properties, and you will find? your master piece.

Yes, I'm fully ...
Yes, I'm fully aware of the issue of Fine Tuning. The issue seems to be the camera doesn't accurately track focus, even with fine tuning specific lenses. In my case, the issue was getting an extremely shallow depth of field, which the camera wouldn't accurately focus to,? while it was possible to manually focus it. The only thing that matters was the camera doesn't hit consistent focus, even when spot focusing.

This is how I see ...
This is how I see the camera focus. You have 3 elements: the? sensor, the "focus confirm", and your eyes. They have to line up in the camera, which possible only within engineer tolerance. I use the "D7000 AF fine tuning" to line up the focus confirm with the camera sensor and ignore the eyes. If you use auto-focus it is obvious. If have problem with TTL-manual focus, you have to check the focus-confirm indicator, which you have fine-tuned already. Also get around by a larger DOF: F5.6, F8....

Brad - Did you fix ...
Brad - Did you fix it?... It could be related to? Lense also.. You can fix such issues in our camera setup easily...

I just got my ...
I just got my camera back from Nikon... My Sigma 17-50 still seems way out... but the 50mm and 105mm seem better, but not quite right... Will be testing further tonight and maybe even send back to Nikon again... I know about AF-Tuning, but as far as I'm concern, this should all be at 0 and focusing correctly? with no issues... When you spend D7000 money, I expect it to be perfect from the manufacturer... not with me twiddling around on it...

You can change the ...
You can change the focus with? the AF Fine Tune adjustment. It saves the settings for each lens attached, so it will automatically detect any adjustment needed afterward once you connect each lens. It's kind of a cool feature, but it hasn't solved my problem.

Nikon only.?
